Join Earth Parade on a rare underwater expedition with marine biologist Colin Foord of Coral Morphologic as we search for some of the rarest coral in the world. These are some of the last wild colonies of staghorn and elkhorn coral in Florida’s reefs. Once abundant, these iconic reef-builders are now critically endangered, ravaged by warming seas, disease, and pollution.
In this immersive adventure, we dive beneath the surface to witness a fragile world on the brink, to see whether the colonies survived the summer of 2023 bleaching event, which decimated so much coral around the world.
As part of the journey, Colin introduces us to the Coral City Camera, which he calls “Miami’s Free-Range Aquarium Underwater Livestream,” capturing the biodiversity thriving in an unlikely urban marine habitat. This episode documents the challenges facing Florida’s native coral species and the surprising places they still survive.
